Time for change

My dream is to take an ever evolving journey in life, and to avoid the norm. It is to constantly see and do and learn. In my attempt at doing so, I want to share my experiences so that others can take the pieces that can better their lives and learn where to apply them.

Early in life, I took a path that was not what I dreamt about. It took me in a very unexpected direction. You see, I went to college to be a stock broker or financial advisor. Yet, I found a job in retail where I continued to grow and progress along with the company I worked for.  For 13 years of my life, which was the majority of my adult life, I knew nothing other than my career in retail. Money was good, but over time as the company became larger, the environment changed along with it. Most people who have worked in retail will understand, especially working for a publicly traded company, that profit is king. So much so that the people who are the heart and soul of the business become no less than a number.

Eventually, the stress, pressure, and inability to treat my team of people the way I felt they should be treated got to me and I left the company in late 2015.   I had recently married, and had a kid. Nothing changes your perception on your time more than trying to balance things to ensure that your wife and child will get their fair share of your attention.

I then set out on a journey to become an entrepreneur. Being that I am a little ADD and impatient, I ended up involved in 2 businesses, but my desire to do more still haunts me. I want to have a startup. I want to write and share things that I learn or have learned along the way.

Since I left my job and became an entrepreneur, so much has changed for the positive. I have learned to value my time more, and taken better care of my physical and mental self. I have lost 55 lbs. I get to spend quality time with my family without being consumed by never ending emails, phone calls, or just stress about things going on in the workplace. Don’t get me wrong, there are days owning my own business that are challenging, but the rewards and flexibility more than outweigh the challenges.

Life Short is my avenue to share things I experience. Life is too short to waste on doing what society expects you to do. Time goes by too fast not to live out the passions that you hold inside.  I hope that I can make a positive difference in other people’s lives by sharing the challenges and exciting things I experience on my journey to fulfillment.
